Western Heights College

2021 Sporting Program

Project Lead: Circus Media
Cinematography: Blue Creative
Branding & Motion Design: Pixel Workshop

Western Heights College (WHC) boasts an energetic brand of saturated colours and geometric shapes. The simple shapes form repeating patterns and each hold a new bright gradient. Together, these elements bring visual movement and energy to reflect that of the students, the teachers and the school.

For the launch of WHC’s Sports Program, Circus Media knew the challenge was the bring this confident branding to life with visually strong motion design. The brand needed to be reinterpreted from its usual form - flat and static - to moving dynamically and in three-dimensional space.

The series of videos would not only act as an introduction to WHC’s Sports Program but also an introduction to WHC itself. With this in mind, our overall mission was to further establish the brand of WHC and present new ways with branding can be utliised to engage and inspire those who see it on the website or in their social media feeds.

We were able to utilise all of the elements of movement, colour and pattern to design a full suite of animated branded graphics that we could integrate with the students, teachers and environment of WHC.

Our goal was for the graphics to both appear seamlessly in the environment when the presenters were the centre of the video and then become a strong visual focus during the cut-aways, moving dynamically and interacting with the staff and students.

This project was a further reminder of how important branding is to the visual identity or an organisation and how it can be pushed from the flat pages of a brand book to be animated and integrated dynamically with video.
